Elementary school

Today’s school keeps pace with the permanent evolution of our society, characterised by its diversity and complexity. It is therefore essential to clarify and simplify the educational process, articulating knowledge, techniques, strategies and methodologies that promote an efficient educational intervention.

When entering elementary school, the child starts a new stage in his or her development, facing new challenges and achievements. Having as main objectives the welfare, harmony, motivation, rigour and quality of teaching and always taking into account the individuality of each child, we promote, through innovative pedagogical experiences, the construction and awareness of personal identity, the participation in civic life in an accessible, responsible, supportive and critical way

The main purpose of Colégio Guadalupe is the harmonious development of the student, in his or her human and academic dimensions.

When entering Elementary school, the child starts a new stage in his or her development, facing new challenges and achievements.

Having as main objectives the welfare, harmony, motivation, rigour and quality of teaching and always taking into account the individuality of each child, we promote, through innovative pedagogical experiences, the construction and awareness of personal identity, the participation in civic life in an accessible, responsible, supportive and critical way, the respect and appreciation of the diversity of individuals and groups regarding belonging and options, the appreciation of different forms of knowledge, communication and expression, the development of a sense of aesthetic appreciation of the world and intellectual curiosity, a taste for knowledge, work and study, the construction of an ecological conscience leading to the gratitude and preservation of the natural and cultural heritage and the appreciation of the relational dimensions of learning and the ethical principles governing the relationship with knowledge and with others.

The challenge lies in the ability to articulate knowledge, based on the existence of reflection and analysis processes.

At our School, students are active subjects both in the planning and in the implementation and regulation of curricular work, also enhancing their teamwork skills.

We value the development of Study Topics (chosen by the students on the grounds of the National and International Curriculum themes) and the development of Projects that arise freely and spontaneously from the students’ interest, influenced by their environment. Given the social transformations that have taken place in recent decades and the demands of a constantly changing society, it is necessary for the educational process to keep up with these changes.

In Colégio Guadalupe, the teacher takes on a decisive role in the design and organisation of the didactic work, in an affective atmosphere where educational innovation is the motto for academic success.

The pilot project G- Learning innovative in the use of new technologies, implemented in September 2019 at all levels of education, developed by our team of teachers in the technological area, and successfully accompanied by all students and teachers, allowed the School to set the main operating guidelines and a careful planning of the entire implementation process. Considering the objectives redefined in our educational project, this new mode of digital books will be introduced at all levels of education, except for the progressive introduction in elementary school, with the iPads as another working tool.

The benefits of this project include the following:

• Diversified methodological strategies in response to society’s transformation in the digital age

• The student at the centre of learning with greater motivation, creativity and ready for any eventuality

• Technology at the service of teaching far beyond traditional school curricula

• More dynamic and interactive classes, with greater and regular stimulation of participation

• Implementation of new education trends: Problem Solving, Project Based Learning Process, Gamification, Learning Analytics, Adaptive Learning, Flipped Classroom

• Transforming traditional teaching methods by giving students more responsibility for their learning

In a line of continuity and coherence with the various educational cycles and stages, and taking into account the growing demands of the educational system, Primary Education at Colégio Guadalupe is based on a multi-teaching model, where teachers are specialised in a particular curricular area. Taking into account the cultural diversity of our students, the College enables a choice between two learning pathways: National Curriculum and Dual Certificate Curriculum where students obtain a national and international Cambridge certification which provides them with a valuable international reference.

We train our students to be citizens of the world, encouraging them not only to be flexible to the perspectives and traditions of other individuals and communities but also to understand and appreciate their own culture, personal history and identity. The development of their critical sense, awareness of environmental causes, and their own evaluation of personal, local and global issues are some of the key fundamentals in the international curriculum.
